Libo County is located in the southern part of the Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, situated in the transitional zone from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to the Guangxi hills. It covers an area of 2,431.8 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 180,000 (2023), with ethnic minorities accounting for over 92%, mainly Buyi, Miao, Shui, and Yao. Libo has a long history, dating back to the establishment of Polan County in 629 AD (Tang Dynasty), Libo Prefecture in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Libo County in 1384 (Ming Dynasty), spanning over 1,300 years. Libo is renowned as the core area of the "World Natural Heritage Site - South China Karst," boasting titles such as China's Most Beautiful Forest and China's Most Beautiful Landscape. It is the first World Natural Heritage site in Guizhou. With its harmonious blend of mountains and waters and typical karst landforms, it is known as the "Green Gem on the Earth's Belt." Libo also preserves rich ethnic cultures, with unique songs, dances, costumes, festivals, and architecture of the Buyi, Miao, Shui, and other minorities, making it an important destination for experiencing the original ethnic customs of Guizhou.
I. Core Scenic Areas 1. Xiaoqikong Scenic Area: National 5A-level scenic spot, 28 km from the county seat. Ticket: 120 yuan (off-season 100 yuan). Opening hours: 8:00-17:00. Key attractions include Wolong Pond, Yuanyang Lake (boating 30 yuan/person), Water Forest (1.2 km hike), 68-level Waterfall, Laya Waterfall, and Xiaoqikong Ancient Bridge (built in 1835, Qing Dynasty). Recommended visit time: 4-5 hours. Scenic area shuttle bus available (40 yuan/person).
2. Daqikong Scenic Area: Adjacent to Xiaoqikong. Ticket: 55 yuan. Opening hours: 8:00-17:00. Known for the Natural Bridge (73 m high, 22 m wide) and Terror Gorge. Boat ride (20 yuan/person) into the canyon, then about 1-hour walk to the Natural Bridge. Recommended visit time: 2-3 hours.
