Liling has a long history, established as a county in the early Eastern Han Dynasty and upgraded to a city in 1985. Known as the 'Porcelain City' and 'Home of Fireworks,' it is a famous historical and cultural city of Chinese ceramics and a core production area for fireworks. Its underglaze multicolored porcelain is world-renowned, winning a gold medal at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
