01Tianjun County is loca…
Tianjun County is located in the northeastern part of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, at the southern foot of the Qilian Mountains and northwest of Qinghai Lake. It covers an area of approximately 25,700 square kilometers with an average elevation of over 3,600 meters. The population is about 32,000 (2023 data), predominantly Tibetan and Mongolian, with Han and other ethnic groups. Named after Mount Tianjun, it was an important passage on the ancient Southern Silk Road, historically inhabited by the Qiang, Tuyuhun, and Tubo peoples. As the only pure pastoral county in Haixi, it is known for its alpine grasslands, snow-capped mountains, lakes, and unique Tibetan and Mongolian cultures. Natural attractions include the Buha River (one of the sources of Qinghai Lake), the scenic Mount Tianjun, and the mysterious Mount Zhaxi Junnai, along with historical sites such as rock paintings and stone scripture walls. Tianjun County is a key part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau ecological barrier and an ideal destination for travelers exploring Qinghai's hidden gems and experiencing nomadic culture.
