Fuping County

Fuping County is located in the northern part of Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, in the transitional zone between the Guanzhong Plain and the Loess Plateau of northern Shaanxi. It covers an area of 1,242 square kilometers and has a permanent population of about 750,000. Fuping has a long history, established as a county during the Qin Dynasty, and its name means "rich and peaceful." It is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization. Fuping is known as China's "Persimmon Town" and "Stone Carving Town," with rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes. It is a concentrated area of Tang Dynasty imperial mausoleums, including five Tang emperor tombs such as Dingling (Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian) and Yuanling (Emperor Daizong Li Yu), as well as the nationally protected Fuping Pottery Art Village. Fuping is also famous for its "Fuping dried persimmons," known as the "king of dried persimmons" for their unique gooey texture and sweet taste. Additionally, Fuping is a renowned old revolutionary base area in Shaanxi, having made significant contributions to the Chinese revolution. Tang Dingling (Tomb of Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian): Located in Gongli Town, about 15 km northeast of Fuping county seat, it is the tomb of the fifth Tang emperor Li Xian and one of the Eighteen Tang Tombs in Guanzhong. Dingling is built against the mountain, with existing stone carvings such as stone lions and stone figures along the sacred way, presenting a grand scale. Transportation: Take a shuttle bus from Fuping county seat to Gongli Town, about 30 minutes, fare 10 yuan. Free admission, but care should be taken to protect cultural relics.

2. Fuping Pottery Art Village: Located in the northern part of the county seat, it is a cultural park integrating pottery production, exhibition, experience, and sales. It displays pottery works from the Yangshao culture to modern times, and visitors can try their hand at pottery making such as throwing and painting. Admission: 30 yuan/person, additional fees for experience activities. Opening hours: 8:00-18:00. Transportation: Take bus No. 3 directly from the county seat.

3. Jinsu Mountain Forest Park: Located about 20 km northeast of Fuping county seat, with an altitude of about 1,200 meters, known for its dense forests and steep terrain. Attractions include Jinsu Mountain Temple, waterfalls, and ancient plank roads, making it a great place for hiking and escaping the summer heat. Admission: 20 yuan/person. It is recommended to drive or charter a car.

4. Former Residence of Xi Zhongxun: Located in Xue Town, about 10 km southwest of Fuping county seat, it is the birthplace and early activity site of revolutionary Xi Zhongxun. The residence preserves scenes from his youth and features an exhibition hall on revolutionary deeds. Free admission, reservation required.

II. Natural Scenery

1. Shichuan River Wetland Park: Located in the southern part of Fuping county seat, it is an urban wetland park built along the Shichuan River. The park has lush water plants and flocks of gulls and herons, with walking paths and observation decks, suitable for strolling and photography. Free admission.

2. Pinyang Lake: Located about 5 km northwest of the county seat, it is the largest reservoir in Fuping, with clear water surrounded by mountains. Fishing and boating are available, but safety precautions are necessary.

1. Fuping Dried Persimmons: The most famous specialty of Fuping, made from local pointed persimmons, with plump flesh, white frost, soft texture, and excellent gooey center. 2. Fuping Qiongguo Sugar: A traditional sesame candy, crispy and sweet with a long history. Available at pastry shops on the old street of the county seat.

IV. Transportation Guide

1. External Transportation: Fuping is about 70 km from Xi'an city center. You can take a high-speed train to Xi'an North Station, then transfer to a shuttle bus from Xi'an to Fuping (about 1.5 hours). Alternatively, take a direct bus from Xi'an North Bus Station to Fuping, about 2 hours.

2. Internal Transportation: Bus routes within the county seat cover major attractions, fare 1-2 yuan. Taxi starting fare is 5 yuan, and you can charter a car to visit surrounding attractions (about 200 yuan/day).
