01Weixi Lisu Autonomous …
Weixi Lisu Autonomous County is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, at the southwestern end of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, in the heart of the Hengduan Mountains and the core area of the Three Parallel Rivers World Natural Heritage site. The county covers an area of approximately 4,476 square kilometers, with a permanent population of about 145,000, of which the Lisu ethnic group accounts for about 56%, making it the only autonomous county in China with the Lisu as the main ethnic group. Weixi has a long history: it was the Shenchuan Governor's Office of the Tubo Kingdom in the Tang Dynasty, Linxi County in the Yuan Dynasty, renamed Weixi County in the Qing Dynasty, and established as an autonomous county in 1985. It boasts rich biodiversity, known as the "Hometown of Chinese Orchids" and "Home of Yunnan Golden Monkeys," with ecological treasures such as the Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve (Weixi section) and the Yunnan Golden Monkey National Park. Culturally, the Lisu "Achimumugua" song and dance and the Waqiqi dance are listed as national intangible cultural heritage, and the Tongle Lisu Village retains its millennia-old primitive style, creating a unique charm where nature and culture intertwine.
