INTRODUCTION
Liaoning is located in the southern part of Northeast China, covering an area of approximately 148,600 square kilometers, with a permanent population of about 42.59 million (2023). As the only coastal province in Northeast China, Liaoning has a coastline of over 2,100 kilometers and is known as the cradle of New China's industry, earning the title 'Eldest Son of the Republic.' The Liao River Basin is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization, where the Hongshan Culture (about 5,000 years ago) unearthed the jade dragon known as 'China's First Dragon.' Historically, Liaoning was the birthplace of the Qing Dynasty, and the Shenyang Imperial Palace is one of only two surviving royal palaces in China. Industrial heritage, Manchu culture, coastal scenery, and Korean ethnic customs blend here, creating a unique regional charm. Dalian is the most romantic coastal city in Northeast China, Shenyang is an ancient capital where heavy industry and history coexist, and Dandong faces North Korea across the Yalu River. Liaoning has six World Heritage sites: Shenyang Imperial Palace, Yongling Tomb, Fuling Tomb, Zhaoling Tomb, Wunü Mountain City in Benxi, and the Great Wall at Jiumenkou in Suizhong. Liaoning is also an important old industrial base in China, home to well-known enterprises such as Ansteel and Dalian Shipyard.
I. Historical Sites and Manchu Culture Liaoning is the core area of Manchu culture. Shenyang Imperial Palace (about 2 km from city center, April-October 8:30-17:30, ticket 50 yuan) was the palace of Nurhaci and Huang Taiji, blending Han, Manchu, and Mongolian architectural styles, with the Grand Administration Hall and Ten Kings Pavilion as iconic structures. Zhaoling Tomb (Beiling Park, ticket 6 yuan, Zhaoling separate ticket 50 yuan) is the mausoleum of Huang Taiji, and Fuling Tomb (Dongling Park, ticket 30 yuan) is the mausoleum of Nurhaci, both World Heritage sites. Wunü Mountain City in Benxi (about 70 km from Benxi city center, ticket 80 yuan) was the early capital of Goguryeo, with steep terrain overlooking Huanlong Lake.
II. Coastal Scenery and Dalian Dalian is the pearl of Liaoning tourism. Xinghai Square (free) is the largest city square in Asia, offering a distant view of Xinghai Bay Bridge. Laohutan Ocean Park (ticket 220 yuan, including Polar Region Museum, Coral Hall, etc.) is a top choice for family trips. Jinshitan National Tourist Resort (about 50 km from Dalian city center, core scenic area ticket 160 yuan) features a 300-million-year-old rocky coastline with geological wonders like Dinosaur Exploring the Sea and Cracked Stone. Lushun Military Port (about 45 km from Dalian city center, ticket 20 yuan) is a witness to modern history, and Baiyushan Tower (ticket 40 yuan) offers a panoramic view of Lushun.

III. Border Scenery and Dandong Dandong faces Sinuiju, North Korea, across the Yalu River. The Yalu River Broken Bridge (ticket 30 yuan) is a historical witness to the Korean War, with a clear view of the North Korean side. Fenghuang Mountain (about 50 km from Dandong city center, ticket 80 yuan) is known for its steepness, with Laoniu Ridge and Glass Plank Road as challenging attractions. Hushan Great Wall (ticket 60 yuan) is the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall, where you can step across the border line.
IV. Industrial Heritage and Anshan Ansteel Industrial Tourism (free but reservation required) allows visitors to see still-operating blast furnaces and experience the震撼 of the 'Republic's Steel Eldest Son.' Qianshan (about 17 km from Anshan city center, ticket 80 yuan) is a branch of the Changbai Mountains, famous for its strange peaks, ancient temples, and pine forests, with a natural Maitreya stone Buddha in the Great Buddha Scenic Area.
V. Culinary Culture Liaoning cuisine belongs to the Northeast cuisine system but features more seafood. Dalian seafood: sea urchin (raw or steamed with egg), mantis shrimp, oysters; recommended to go to Heishijiao or Tianjin Street seafood market. Shenyang chicken rack (Laosiji Noodle House, about 8 yuan each) is a local favorite, perfect with ice beer. Dandong strawberries (99 strawberries) are nationally renowned, available from January to April. Jinzhou barbecue (per person 50-80 yuan) is famous for grilled lamb leg and grilled silkworm pupae. Lianguigui Smoked Meat and Pancake (Shenyang Zhongjie branch, about 30 yuan per serving) is a century-old brand.

Transportation Guide Liaoning has Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (about 20 km from city center, Metro Line 2 direct) and Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (about 10 km from city center, Metro Line 2 direct). High-speed rail network is developed: Shenyang to Dalian about 1.5 hours (second class about 170 yuan), Shenyang to Dandong about 1 hour (second class about 70 yuan). City transport: Shenyang Metro has 4 lines (fare 2-5 yuan), Dalian Metro has 3 lines (fare 2-6 yuan), bus fares generally 1-2 yuan.
VII. Best Time to Visit Liaoning has a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. May-June and September-October are the best seasons: spring (April-May) cherry blossoms in Dalian (Lushun Longwangtang Cherry Blossom Garden) and peach blossoms in Dandong; summer (June-August) coastal areas like Dalian and Yingkou are suitable for escaping the heat, but July is rainy; autumn (September-October) maple leaves in Benxi (Guanmen Mountain, Laobian Valley) are a riot of color, and Qianshan in Anshan is colorful; winter (December-February) Shenyang Ice and Snow World and Dalian hot springs (e.g., Shangri-La Hot Spring) offer unique experiences, but temperatures can drop to -15°C.
