III. Architectural Layout and Scenic Area Structure: A Three-Dimensional Viewing System
The Nanshan One Tree Observation Deck is not a single building but a three-dimensional observation complex built along the mountain, with a well-arranged layout. The design core lies in 'borrowing scenery' - treating the city skyline as the grandest exhibit, while the architecture itself humbly integrates into the natural environment.
1. Core Observation Platform
This is the soul of the entire scenic area. The platform is semi-circular and cantilevered outward, about 30 meters in diameter, supported by reinforced concrete and steel structures. The platform floor is paved with anti-slip granite, and the edge is equipped with 1.2-meter-high stainless steel railings to ensure safety without obstructing the view. Standing on the platform, you can see the skyscraper clusters of the Yuzhong Peninsula, the winding confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, and the bridges spanning the two rivers (such as the Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge, Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge, and Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge). In the center of the platform, the iconic banyan tree is carefully protected. It is over a hundred years old, with a trunk that takes two people to embrace, and a canopy covering an area of about 200 square meters, serving as the most natural sunshade and spiritual totem of the platform.
2. Indoor Observation Hall and Rotating Corridor
To cope with Chongqing's rainy and foggy climate, the scenic area has built a three-story indoor observation hall behind the main platform. The building's exterior combines modern glass curtain walls with stone, appearing transparent and stable. The first floor houses a visitor service center and souvenir shop; the second floor is a full-floor-to-ceiling glass observation hall equipped with high-power telescopes, allowing clear views of details of buildings on the opposite bank; the third floor features a unique rotating observation corridor. This corridor is about 60 meters in circumference and 2.5 meters wide, rotating slowly (about one revolution every 30 minutes), allowing visitors to enjoy a 360-degree unobstructed view of the complete urban panorama from the Yuzhong Peninsula to Nan'an, and from the Yangtze River to the Jialing River, without moving their feet. This design is relatively rare among observation decks in China and greatly enhances the comfort and fun of viewing.
3. Scenic Walkways and Viewing Pavilions
Extending from the core platform to both sides, the scenic area has built a total of about 500 meters of scenic walkways. The walkways follow the mountain's undulations, with several small viewing pavilions and rest areas along the way. These pavilions use antique wooden structures that complement the natural vegetation of Nanshan. The walkways are lined with native tree species such as camphor, osmanthus, and ginkgo, offering different scenery in each season. In spring, flowers bloom; in summer, cool shade; in autumn, colorful leaves; in winter, misty views. The end of the walkway connects to other attractions in the Nanshan Scenic Area, such as Tushan Temple and Laojun Cave, forming a complete cultural tour route of the mountain city.
4. Supporting Facilities
At the entrance of the scenic area, there is an ecological parking lot that can accommodate about 100 small cars. The visitor center provides ticketing, consultation, luggage storage, and baby care services. The dining area mainly offers Chongqing local snacks and simple meals, such as sour and spicy noodles, small noodles, and tofu pudding, at moderate prices. In addition, there are several photography points in the scenic area, providing the best shooting angles for professional photographers and ordinary tourists.
